My first thought after reading this was, oh my my, my myyyyy.... This is an age gap, work place, ice queen erotic romance highly recommended by writer Lee Winter and I can certainly see why. Laurie Holcombe interviews for a job as a personal assistant to Diana Parker - the top attorney at a prestigious Georgia law firm. But Laurie's not at all who the icy, demanding woman envisioned to fill that position. She's not polished, has a pink streak in her hair, and doesn't dress to the nines, yet her attitude and drive intrigues Diana. Almost against her will, she gives Laurie the job on a trial basis. It doesn't take long for sparks to fly, though neither is willing to admit or act on it. Diana is a married woman - and straight. Isn't she? And Diana doesn't know what Laurie's sexual orientation is. Doesn't want to know. Can't go there. And yet.... What happens when the exquisite torture of staying away from each other becomes too great? This book is HOT. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's an 11. Maybe a 12. And it's not just sexual, there's a good story behind it and characters you can't help but root for. If steamy sex makes you uncomfortable, this wouldn't be your cup of tea. But for those that do appreciate that, you can't go wrong here. This is a great read. Hell of an introduction to an author's work! Oh - and if it should ever come out on audiobook - with the right narrator - god help us. I'm having palpitations just thinking about it. I equal parts eagerly anticipated and dreaded the release of The X Ingredient. I loved the Mirandy/DWP dynamic of the original fanfic, but wished it had been a complete story. When I heard this adaptation was coming, I was thrilled I’d finally have that wish granted, but worried that the tale would lose something in translation when it was no longer focused on Miranda and Andy.Thankfully, I still loved this adaptation. I’ve seen plenty of reviews where others have disagreed with this, and I can’t help but wonder if it wasn’t because those readers weren’t able to separate their affinity for the fanfic and read this for what it is, an erotic novel with no ties to the DWP universe. I can understand how that might be difficult for some, but in the end, it is what it has to be. It was fun getting to read about another pairing. Yes, the relationship probably feels a bit superficial, especially when the sexual relationship starts after only a week, but they most certainly had physical chemistry. Yes, there is a definitive lack of depth (if you will) as far as getting to know the characters, but it’s an erotic novel. There aren’t many of them that spend much space developing their characters. The X Ingredient gives you exactly what it should, plenty of hot sex with just a touch of story between those scenes. Nothing in the plot will surprise you or shatter any typical tropes, but you probably aren’t going to pick up this novel for a superb story, you’re reading it for the sex scenes.What you do get is to see one of the two mains finally admit who she really is, a sexual relationship that could feel predatory due to the power imbalance (attorney and personal assistant) that’s handled quite well, and a complete story that’s capable of standing on its own merits.
